I totally identify with Jenny Anderson. This Melbourne-based maker is busy living her life, working and attending school while juggling the design, production, marketing and social media of her brand. I came across her jewellery via a retailer on Instagram which I find is often the best way to discover the awesome and hidden jewellery designers on that platform who seem to slip through the cracks of its’ dumb search algorithms.
Minimal, architectural and beautifully detailed, she says her work is inspired by engineering, the urban environment and architecture and that ‘current political and sociological discourse underpins’ it (I’m guessing that’s where FUCK comes in; we’re all thinking it while she’s setting spinels into it).
Anderson studied fashion design prior to obtaining a bachelors degree in metalsmithing/silversmithing and is currently attending technical college to obtain a certificate in engineering. Wow! I think it’s so cool that she sets precious metals and stones against blackened steel, paint and gorgeous found objects, always with a keen eye on form, volume and craft.
Now, this is a tiny sampling of her work below, so please do yourself a favour and check out her Instagram feed here which is more current than her website, because, you know, who has time to keep a website up to date when you can just post to Instagram. I’m with you on that point Jenny 🙂
